When we sit, the pelvis reclines which places stress in the lumbar region. On a saddle stool we rest the pelvis in its natural, balanced position. Therefore there the spine maintains its natural ‘S’ curve and you do not need a backrest to lean into. The body is free to move naturally, and you use your own core muscles to maintain the posture.
