Jane has cystic fibrosis. This affects her ability to breath, therefore making movement and exercise challenging so her general level of fitness is in decline. She is however not letting this ‘get her down’ and she enjoys sewing and spends a lot of her time in her craft room.
She has a large sewing machine which sits on a bespoke desk, and she has a large flat desk area that she uses for measuring and cutting material. She has a standard office type chair for the sewing machine and a taller draughtsman’s chair for the big table, which is quite high. She’s acutely aware that the more exercise she can do, the longer she will retain physical fitness so she likes to stand and move herself about as much as she can.
A while ago as she sat on the draughtsman chair cutting material, as she lent forward, the chair toppled, and she wasn’t able to stop herself from falling and broke a hip. She was quickly taken care of and has healed well, but she called us to help find a solution that would allow her to work in safety.
And there really was only one solution, albeit with a couple of options.
The draughtsman’s chair has a standard 5 star chair base and a footring to rest the feet on. But as Jane leaned forward, the 5 star base didn’t provide enough stability, the castors rolled back and a fall was inevitable.
The base of the Vela Tango 700 has 4 wheels, one in each corner which provides a stable base, even when the chair is raised up high. It also has an easy to operate brake so it cannot move, for example when the user places their weight on the arms to sit or stand.
We did discuss if Jane needed the electric height adjustment on her chair. This raises and lowers the chair at the touch of a button, but Jane likes to do as much of the effort to stand and sit as she can herself. The manual height adjustable chair is a lot cheaper but it was decided that the electric chair would be better. Jane doesn’t have to use the electric facility to help her, but on days when she is tired, it is there for her.
The chair features a tilt mechanism too, so if Jane wants to stand and perch, the Vela Tango 700 provides a stable platform to perch on.
So after a couple of frustrating months not being able to sew, Jane is now back in her crafting room, and her husband can get on with his day without worrying quite so much about his wife.

It could be that there is an injury and neck support is required. For this, our go to product is an Ergochair Adapt chair with a V600 backrest. This can be fitted with a large anatomically shaped neck rest which is highly adjustable and will support the users neck while they type.
Job-specific. Some job rolls require the operator to look up more. Control centre and security rolls for example may see users looking up at large displays and they will need support to do this correctly.
